Theresa C. Fan DDS, DABDSM
DEDICATED TO THE TREATMENT OF SNORING AND SLEEP APNEA
OUR PRACTICE
MEET THE DOCTOR
Dr. Theresa C. Fan has dedicated her practice to improving the lives of those individuals who suffer from snoring and sleep apnea.
Dr. Fan graduated from Columbia University School of Dental and Oral Surgery in 2004. She went on to complete 2 years of advanced training at Long Island Jewish Medical Center during which she was appointed to the position of Chief Resident of General Dentistry. She furthered her studies at the University of Kentucky and completed a mini-residency program in orofacial pain and TMJ disorder, a condition often related to sleep apnea.
For over two decades, Dr. Fan has provided high quality dental care in a manner that puts her patients at ease. Her gentle touch and soothing demeanor have helped alleviate the fears of many patients who have sought her care. After looking in so many patients’ mouths over the years and recognizing the signs and symptoms of sleep apnea, she came to the realization that many people are suffering from a potentially life-threatening condition they are completely unaware of. She discovered that, as a dentist, she could drastically improve an individual's sleep, health and quality of life with a simple and comfortable dental treatment.
She devoted her time and efforts to learning about and obtaining the appropriate training to manage this condition. She has since dedicated her practice to helping those individuals who suffer from sleep disordered breathing. Now, her greatest satisfaction comes when her patients return to her office saying they sleep much better, feel refreshed, have the energy to focus at work, are not too tired to hang out with their family at the end of the day, and their spouses can also sleep more peacefully.
Dr. Fan is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine which is the highest level of education that can be achieved in this field. Furthermore, as an active member of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine (AADSM) and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM), she has had the extensive training and experience needed to safely and effectively manage this condition and help her patients feel better. In fact, the AADSM recognized her proficiency in this field by awarding her the "Qualified Dentist" designation.
As the section head of dental sleep medicine at North Shore University Hospital, she works closely with sleep physicians to provide oral appliance therapy to those individuals who suffer from obstructive sleep apnea. Her success in this special area of sleep medicine also caught the interest of the television producers of American Health Front! and the radio show WCWP 88.1 FM Radio (Part 1 & Part 2) who invited her to speak on their programs.
